Description Bogdan Artyushenko 2024-09-10 16:52:53 UTC
according to “Prohibition on Certain Information Technology and Software Services”, pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 14071 https://ofac.treasury.gov/media/932951/download?inline there are restrictions on Services to the Russian Federation, especially

"The exportation, reexportation, sale, or supply, directly or indirectly, from the United
States, or by a United States person, wherever located, of IT consultancy and design
services or of IT support services or cloud-based services for Covered Software to any
person located in the Russian Federation."

For example Linux supported OpenTofu project removed support of yandex cloud (https://github.com/opentofu/registry/pull/817)

Whereas ftp.ru.freebsd.org canonical name is mirror.yandex.ru

Should this policy applicable to FreeBSD project as well

The above report refers neither to the FreeBSD bug nor any missing feature. Neither does it look like SPAM, so let me respond.

The FreeBSD Project is driven by a global community of developers and contributors who respect their Code of Conduct[1]. The FreeBSD OS is not proprietary software, and neither the US-based FreeBSD Foundation rules the project.

But if you genuinely deem hosting mirrors on the Yandex inappropriate, you can complain here[2].
