ThinkPad T400. For hardware configuration see the attachments. While booting 14.1 from a USB stick (install media) or while booting from a drive after system installation the 'Safe Mode' option (whatever it does) MUST be set ("7" -> "M" in bootup menu). Otherwise the system freezes during boot up (see the screenshot); no error messages can be seen (see the log). No ssh access for debugging (I thought that only a console is frozen).
Are you able to boot to single-user mode? Is there a previous version of FreeBSD that booted successfully on this laptop? When the system hangs, does it respond to keyboard input at all? Does ctrl-T print anything?
I have a T400 and 14.1-RELEASE has always been fine for me. 14.2-RELEASE will not boot, however. Maybe 14.2-RELEASE will work differently for you?
