Screenshot

Most splashes have no name, previewing does not work for those splashes, it seems impossible to select and apply a nameless splash.

If it helps to understand this bug: after clicking the Defaults button, nothing is selected.

At least one of the named splashes _does_ work.

Maybe I'm unlucky, with all the unnamed splashes not compatible with Plasma 6?

In any case: I'd expect the Defaults button to work.

Maybe there's an upstream bug for part of this.

Please try with clean KDE setup (you can use new account for testing). I doubt Plasma 5 and 6 are fully compatible when it concerns addons and extensions, so if you had installed extensions for Plasma 5 they are probably messing up with Plasma 6 now.

From bug 284986 comment 6:

> With the fix: it's clearer that, for me, the Defaults button in
> Login Screen (SDDM) is unreliable, …

(In reply to Max Brazhnikov from comment #2)

Thanks. I should add:

a) I had problems with the Defaults button in at least one area of
System Settings (probably two or more) long before the switch
from 5 to 6, I probably never bothered to seek or make a FreeBSD
or upstream bug report because 6 was on the horizon for FreeBSD ports

b) no addon is outdated, according to Discover (there were difficulties
with addon updates through Discover after I first switched to 6,
it seems that things have improved)

c) … right now I can't remember what the third thing was, sorry
(I'm juggling multiple bugs at the moment).

I might have a chat in the KDE Matrix server before anything else here.

Third-party splashes are not guaranteed to work. Discover won't find updates from Qt5 to Qt6, because they are different entities in the store. You need to remove old non-working extensions (probably manually) and install new versions.

Breeze and Oxygen splashes are part of the Plasma distribution and should always work. Do they work for you?

I no longer use the affected system.

Do you mean that you don't use Plasma anymore, or don't a have this problem with the Plasma on the different system?
