With version 1101, net/realtek-re-kmod works on my chipset and possibly we will be able to deprecate this port for real. See bug #275882 comment #76.
Arrrgh -- please disregard my previous comment. net/realtek-re-kmod is still broken, unless checksumming is offloaded.
(In reply to George Mitchell from comment #2) The 1101.00 version seemed to work for me too, but then the server started crashing repeatedly. Please can you try to use the net/realtek-rge-kmod port? That's a port of the work done on the RTL8125/8126/8127 for -HEAD. See https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-net/2025-November/007990.html The if_rge is looking good for 15.0 for multiple people. I'm hoping it will be backported from -HEAD to 15-STABLE and preferably 15.0.
I am closing this bug because the maintainership transfer for net/realtek-re-kmod198 has been committed (3a1ad9e8) and the port has been undeprecated. The original request by george@ is fulfilled. Discussion about newer kmod versions and rge-kmod alternatives should be tracked separately.
