Same problem here after upgrading mate ports. +1. Importance could be changed to "Affects some people". At least 2 persons state this problem on freebsd-ports ML [1] and freebsd-gnome ML [2] (cross posted, each points to the top of thread). IIRC, these applets ran OK before x11/mate-panel update (r551471), but strangely enough, rolling back x11/mate-panel to r551470 and rebuild/reinstall didn't help.
