I'm encountering similar anomaly as closed bug 250218 upon x11/mate-applets 1.28 :
 'List of windows', 'Show desktop' and 'Clock' applets can't load.

Error msg : "exited unexpectedly".

I notice it is a newly appeared regression.

Erratum : 'Show desktop' applet works.
