Description Alexander Zhuravlev 2008-01-22 22:00:01 UTC

		Hello,

Attached patches add LCD filtering support to print/freetype2 and x11-fonts/libXft ports.
I've used them for a couple of months and did not encounter any issues. You may consider possibility to include
them into FreeBSD ports collection.

ps. in case if you do not know about LCD filtering, feel free to check those resources:

We normal don't want to maintain any unoffical patches on our own unless we
have to. After looked at a few of bugzilla and mailing list, it's not complete
ready and they are still tweaking. These libraries are maintaining very well
by upstream, so when patches are ready and these will be in the release
tarball.

Actually, as far as I understood David Turner <david <at> freetype.org>
said that Microsoft has several patents covering the ClearType "technology",
so it is very unlikely that the patches will be included into freetype2, libXft,
cairo, etc. For example, Ubuntu developers maintain the pathes on their own for
quite a while. Anyway, thank you for consideration and all the best to
FreeBSD project.

    print/freetype2 Makefile
  Log:
Add LCD filtering option, WITH_LCD_FILTERING. Visit URL below to learn more
about it. It is disable by default because of possible patent issues.
