Description swell.k 2011-03-01 11:20:09 UTC
Xserver knows about PREFIX nowadays, so don't encourage using legacy paths.
From xorg.conf(5)

           <cmdline>
           /etc/X11/<cmdline>
           /usr/local/etc/X11/<cmdline>
           $XORGCONFIG
           /etc/X11/$XORGCONFIG
           /usr/local/etc/X11/$XORGCONFIG
           /etc/X11/xorg.conf
           /etc/xorg.conf
           /usr/local/etc/X11/xorg.conf.<hostname>
           /usr/local/etc/X11/xorg.conf
           /usr/local/lib/X11/xorg.conf.<hostname>
           /usr/local/lib/X11/xorg.conf

       where <cmdline> is a relative path (with no ".." components) specified
       with the -configdir command line option.
