FreeBSD 9.0-RC3 (well, any RC) hangs when I try to boot the CD on a Via EPIA M850 board. Verbose boot ouput available at http://pastebin.com/hf8pU5W9 Last line shown during boot is: hdac0: Probing codec #1... and then it completely freezes. How-To-Repeat: Burn the amd64 iso and boot on a 64bit VIA Nano CPU.
Having a similar hang with an EPIA P820 board. Recompiling the kernel (used the -RC3 sources that were on CD) without the snd_hda driver allows the system to boot. It seems to come up without a problem.

A kernel compiled with nodevice snd_hda boots indeed fine. I also tried the hdac patch from http://svnweb.freebsd.org/base?view=revision&revision=228726 to get support for the VIA VT1708S High Definition Audio Codec on my board, still no joy (i.e. booting a kernel compiled with 228726 freezes as well) Seems like FreeBSD 9.0-REL will be unusable for VIA mainboard owners.
Same Error on i386 and amd64 on 9.0-RELEASE & 9.1-BETA1 with same error on a VIA EPIA-VE-900 Nano X2 1,4 GHz Dual Core MiniITX Board.
I've to put hint.hdac.0.disabled="1" into /boot/device.hints to run FreeBSD-11-CURRENT-r266655 on a Via EPIA-M910-12PQ QuadCore. Otherwise it hangs during boot.
I can confirm that this bug also afflicts 11.0-RELEASE, and nukama's workaround still works.
