A couple months, if not a year, this nasty problem bothers me on CURRENT and it seems that it is present on fresh installations of FreeBSD CURRENT since October last year on modern hardware. It appears on CURRENT since then and especially on systems newly installed. I run also two other systems with CURRENT which have been "smoothly" migrated over the past two years to the most recent CURRENT without any problems in updating or compiling this port. That is what confuses me and it might be due to a compiler bug or architectural discrepancy on the boxes. What I did so far: I rebuilt all depending ports for kBuild without any optimisations and did so also for emulators/virtualbox-ose, via "portmaster -f". The problem has also been reported on Linux once, but without any solutions, since the Linux distributions distribute binary packages.
