Description Graham Perrin freebsd_committer freebsd_triage 2016-02-11 12:46:54 UTC
At https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=pkg&sektion=8 for FreeBSD 10.2 the only documented use of -f is as a flag for the bootstrap command.

Please add to the man page other known uses of

-f

I'm aware of at least the following:

pkg update -f

pkg upgrade -f

----

A question about upgrade -f was asked in irc://chat.freenode.net/#pcbsd a couple of days ago.

Other discussions that question or exemplify uses of -f include https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/pkg-broken-after-upgrading-from-9-3-to-10-1.51659/#post-289663 and https://forums.pcbsd.org/thread-19980.html

Those are uses of -f for the subcommand. These are documented in the subcommand man pages, pkg-update(8), pkg-upgrade(8), and so on. They do seem to be documented there.

https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=pkg-update&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+10.2-RELEASE+and+Ports&arch=default&format=html

https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=pkg-upgrade&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+10.2-RELEASE+and+Ports&arch=default&format=html

These are actually part of the ports-mgmt/pkg port. If those additional pages do not cover the flags adequately, please respond and this bug report can be reassigned.

Thanks!
