It is suggested to install package "pkg install mkfontdir".
Such package does not exist anymore, it has been merged into 
"mkfontscale", according to:

  Chase merge of mkfontdir into  mkfontscale.

  The port mkfontdir was removed and merged into mkfontscale.
  Rename mentions of mkfontdir in the X11 chapter to fit.

I just committed a patch to rename mkfontdir into mkfontscale in that chapter. Thanks for submitting the patch. PR closed!
