The FreeBSD Handbook describes installation of full featured Desktops at: https://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/x11-wm.html However, instructions to install minimal desktop is missing. Kindly add minimal desktop installation instructions also.
(In reply to Zetro Track from comment #0) By minimal desktop, do you mean the lite version of the port (like gnome-lite, etc)? Please clarify.
By minimal edition, I mean bare-bone desktop desktop environment. For instance: 1. KDE's minimal edition can be installed by: pkg install plasma5-plasma 2. And Gnome's minimal edition can be installed by: pkg install gnome-shell The Documentation page should mention this, for those of us who want to keep their desktop bare-bones and do not want to install additional (unnecessary packages).
(In reply to Zetro Track from comment #2) This suggestion makes sense to me. Feel free to submit a patch here or on https://reviews.freebsd.org if you want ;)
(In reply to Guangyuan Yang from comment #3) Does it need any patch? I don't think so. In order to make this change, the webmaster needs to edit the concerned webpage (https://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/x11-wm.html) and add these instructions.
(In reply to Zetro Track from comment #4) Exactly what I am saying - in order to update the website, someone needs to submit a diff against the source code that generates the website: https://cgit.freebsd.org/doc/tree/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/x11/chapter.xml#n1448.
(In reply to Guangyuan Yang from comment #5) Someone with relevant knowledge can do that. I don't have this knowledge :-(
Fixed in https://cgit.freebsd.org/doc/commit/?id=4d1de1c7246d147e1c428b542350695b8fedf84e
