Hello freebsd-ports, I recently switched to FreeBSD as my daily driver after using OpenBSD with cwm for a bit over 6 months now. After installing cwm I got the notice that it is currently unmaintained and is looking for one so here I am :^) Unfortunately I have no prior experience with maintaining ports but I am willing to learn. Also the fact that cwm only updates every 6 months (Leah Neukirchens port even less) makes it probably easier maintaining due to the slow but steady update frequency. For questions feel free to reach back to me! P.S: I've been using *BSD systems, mostly OpenBSD, since mid-2019. As a Hobby C developer I am also familiar with the *BSD C library to some degree.
By the way, as the e-mail please don't use the one provided on my profile here. Use this one instead: me AT emilengler DOT com
Hi Emil, As a starting point, do you know the Porter's Handbook [1]? There you will find many many interesting things about FreeBSD's ports and how to do make ports even better ;) [1] https://docs.freebsd.org/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/porters-handbook/book.html If you're still interested in taking over the port after poking around in the handbook, I'd be happy to put you down as a maintainer :)
Hello Rainer, thanks for pointing me to the Porters Handbook! I already stumbled upon it and planned on scrambling through it the next days. And yes I am still interested :-)
