I made a similar[0] patch for java-cup and sent it directly to the 
maintainer on the 12th of January. As of now, I have yet to receive
a response.

I suspect the maintainer address is dead, 
http://xcf.berkeley.edu/members.php does not mention nordwick@ in
the list of alumni either.

[0] The primary difference between my patch and the one in this PR
is that mine wrapped the CUP code in a JAR. My patch is available
at http://www.mcdermottroe.com/computer-stuff/freebsd/java-cup.diff

However, the address doesn't bounce, so I'm not sure if we should reset
MAINTAINER yet or not.

Sounds good.  I'll look at merging the two patches and committing that.

I actually went with this patch plus some tweaks from the PR and myself,
