Component and Version Fields.

The PR form includes various fields for describing the bug. This includes two fields, Component and Version, which are yellow boxes and have an asterisk which means required. Depending on the type of bug being reported, these two fields may be pre-filled with one or more possible value (ie for this PR, the Component field includes Advocacy, Documentation, Manual Pages, Website and Wiki).

When there is only one possible value for either of these fields, that value of course is pre-filled. However, this being an empty yellow box with a red heading, and looks to me, and some, as if it is yet to be filled in, and is expecting some input.

For instance, when the PR is about a port, the Component field has in the red heading 'Individual Port(s)' and then a large yellow space underneath. It seams quite obvious to me, and some, that this should be the place to enter the name of the port. This is what is intuitive.

In fact, the yellow box is redundant and the correct place to enter the name of the port is the beginning of the Summary field. This is counter intuitive.

This renders the use of the PR form as confusing.

I did work this out after some little time, but some people who are not familiar with the form may be put off and not complete a PR which may have been useful to the community.

I suggest that when there is only one value for either of these fields, that there is no yellow box underneath and there is no asterisk associated with it.

Thank you.

Thank you for your report and suggestions.

The usability issues of Bugzilla's default template set are well-known and we are collecting issue reports to address in future template/theme revision.

This particular issue as reported is partially a consequence of particular components being hidden in certain conditions (in this case: 'ports framework', which has unfortunately just shifted issues elsewhere.

Note also, with respect to 'Versions' singular value at the moment, its likely that for the Ports & Packages product, that there will exist a 'Quarterly' version for people to report issues against in the future
